Tina (Anna Bullock) was born November 26, 1939 in Nutbush, Tennessee.
She lived together with her mother and father on a little farm, but Tina's
parents didn't get along very well and her Mom left the family and moved to
St. Louis. Tina's father then sent her to live with her grandparents.
Tina ends up following her mom and sister (Alinne) to St. Louis where she goes
to a nightclub (Club Manhattan) and meets Ike Turner who was lead singer of the
Kings of Rhythm. Ike asks Alinne to sing with him, but she refuses and Tina takes
her place. Tina soon begins to perform together with Ike and becomes the
star of the show..... in the beginning Tina has an affair with the saxophone
player from the band but when she gets pregnant, he leaves her and the band.
Tina seeks comfort in the arms of Ike and changes her name to Tina Turner.
Together they travel around the world and make hits like ...."a fool in love ",
"Shake a tail feather", "Nutbush City Limits ( written by Tina ) ", "Proud Mary"
and many more. Although Ike is abusive to Tina, she always decides to stay with him
and to work on their relationship.
When Phil Spector wants to make a song alone with Tina (River deep Mountain High) ,
Ike only agrees when Phil pays him a certain amount and that the record comes out
under the name :"Ike & Tina Turner.".
The song becomes a big hit and the Ike & Tina Turner Revue is being asked to tour
together with The Rolling Stones. Ike becomes even more jealous as he realizes the
bands success is thanks to one person, Tina.
Ike abused Tina so bad on July2, 1976 that she finally found the strength to leave him.
She branches off on her own, fights to keep her name (Turner) and made a new life
for herself, one of great success.
Tina has since made several albums with several hit songs, toured with the Rolling Stones
again, performed in the movie "Tommy" and "Mad Max, Beyond Thunderdome",
won 3 grammys for her album Private Dancer, she has a total of 6 grammys and
her star is on the Walk of Fame.
She overcame a life of abuse and humiliation, she took back her life and made it on her own.
She is admired by many and an example for women, abuse does not have to become a
way of life, there is always a way out, show your strength.
